Establishment card renewal in Dubai

An establishment card is not the same thing as a trade licence. The trade licence authorises the company to conduct its business activity. The establishment card connects that company to the immigration system, allowing it to use services connected with investor, partner and employee sponsorship. First identify the authority handling the file

Do not begin with a random renewal form. Begin with the authority named on the existing immigration file. A Dubai company may use GDRFA Dubai, while companies under federal immigration channels use ICP. A free-zone company may start through its zone portal even when the final immigration service sits with one of those authorities.

This distinction matters because the document list, portal journey and fee components are not identical. The official GDRFA establishment-card renewal service and the ICP renewal service should be treated as the current sources for the file they govern.

Documents commonly requested

• Valid trade licence. If the licence has expired, renew it before attempting the immigration renewal.
• Existing establishment-card or immigration-file details. Keep the card number and company file reference available.
• Partners appendix. This may be requested where the shareholders are not fully shown on the trade licence.
• Authorised signatories' passports and Emirates IDs. The exact identity documents depend on who is authorised on the file.
• Manager authorisation. A notarised authorisation may be required where a manager is acting for the owners.

There is no honest universal number. GDRFA and ICP publish different components, and a free zone may charge for its own portal or handling in addition to the government transaction. The amount can also change with validity period, urgent processing or amendments made alongside the renewal.

What happens when the card expires?

The company does not disappear, but its immigration work can stop. New visa applications, sponsorship actions and certain amendments may be unavailable until the file is active again. Depending on the authority and jurisdiction, late fees may apply. An expired trade licence can create a second blockage, which is why renewal planning should cover the licence and immigration file together.

Common reasons a renewal is delayed

• The trade licence is expired or the renewed licence has not updated in the immigration system.
• The shareholder, manager, address or trade name differs between company and immigration records.
• An authorised signatory's passport or Emirates ID has expired.
• The application was started in the wrong authority or free-zone channel.
• A portal subscription, company amendment or outstanding immigration issue also needs attention.
