Establishment card renewal in Dubai

Your establishment card keeps the company's immigration file active. This guide explains where to renew it, which documents normally matter, why GDRFA and ICP charges differ, and what to check before the card expires.

Short answer: renew through the immigration authority responsible for your company file—usually GDRFA Dubai or ICP—after confirming the trade licence is valid. Upload the requested company and signatory documents, pay the authority's displayed fees and save the renewed electronic card. Start before expiry so visa work does not get held up.

An establishment card is not the same thing as a trade licence. The trade licence authorises the company to conduct its business activity. The establishment card connects that company to the immigration system, allowing it to use services connected with investor, partner and employee sponsorship. Our Dubai establishment card guide explains the original issue and purpose; this page concentrates on renewal.

First identify the authority handling the file

Do not begin with a random renewal form. Begin with the authority named on the existing immigration file. A Dubai company may use GDRFA Dubai, while companies under federal immigration channels use ICP. A free-zone company may start through its zone portal even when the final immigration service sits with one of those authorities.

This distinction matters because the document list, portal journey and fee components are not identical. The official GDRFA establishment-card renewal service and the ICP renewal service should be treated as the current sources for the file they govern.

Documents commonly requested

  • Valid trade licence. If the licence has expired, renew it before attempting the immigration renewal.
  • Existing establishment-card or immigration-file details. Keep the card number and company file reference available.
  • Partners appendix. This may be requested where the shareholders are not fully shown on the trade licence.
  • Authorised signatories' passports and Emirates IDs. The exact identity documents depend on who is authorised on the file.
  • Manager authorisation. A notarised authorisation may be required where a manager is acting for the owners.
  • Additional activity documents. Regulated businesses and particular legal forms can be asked for supporting approvals.

Upload clear, current copies. A blurred passport, an old partners appendix or a mismatch between the licence and immigration record can turn a routine renewal into a correction exercise.

What does establishment card renewal cost?

There is no honest universal number. GDRFA and ICP publish different components, and a free zone may charge for its own portal or handling in addition to the government transaction. The amount can also change with validity period, urgent processing or amendments made alongside the renewal.

Fee rule: use the amount displayed by the responsible authority for your exact file. Kinzaad will show the official charges and its service fee separately. We will not present a low government line as though it were the complete renewal bill.

What happens when the card expires?

The company does not disappear, but its immigration work can stop. New visa applications, sponsorship actions and certain amendments may be unavailable until the file is active again. Depending on the authority and jurisdiction, late fees may apply. An expired trade licence can create a second blockage, which is why renewal planning should cover the licence and immigration file together.

Common reasons a renewal is delayed

  • The trade licence is expired or the renewed licence has not updated in the immigration system.
  • The shareholder, manager, address or trade name differs between company and immigration records.
  • An authorised signatory's passport or Emirates ID has expired.
  • The application was started in the wrong authority or free-zone channel.
  • A portal subscription, company amendment or outstanding immigration issue also needs attention.

Renewal is also a useful compliance check

Before pressing submit, verify who is authorised to sign, which visas remain active, whether any former employee still appears on the file and whether the licence activity and company details are current. If visas are involved, our PRO and government liaison service can coordinate the immigration sequence rather than treating each transaction in isolation.

Final approval, processing time and fees rest with GDRFA, ICP or the relevant free zone. Rules can change, so confirm the live authority requirements for the exact company before relying on a quotation or checklist.

Answers

Establishment card renewal — common questions

How do I renew an establishment card in Dubai?
Renew through the immigration channel responsible for the company, usually GDRFA Dubai or ICP. Confirm the trade licence is valid, upload the requested company and signatory documents, pay the displayed fees and retain the renewed electronic card.
What documents are needed for establishment card renewal?
Common requirements include a valid trade licence, authorised signatories' passport copies, the partners appendix where applicable and manager authorisation where required. The authority may request more for a regulated activity or particular legal form.
How much is establishment card renewal in Dubai?
There is no single fee for every company. GDRFA, ICP and free zones use different fee components. Check the live amount shown for the authority handling your company file and ask for government and service charges to be separated.
Can I renew with an expired trade licence?
Usually the trade licence must be valid because it is a core renewal document. Renew the licence first, then update the immigration file and establishment card.
What happens if the establishment card expires?
Company immigration services can be interrupted, including new visa applications and some renewals or amendments. Late charges may apply depending on the authority and jurisdiction.
Is it the same as the trade licence?
No. The trade licence authorises the business activity. The establishment card registers the company with immigration so it can use company immigration and sponsorship services.
