™️ Protect your brand

Trademark registration & IP protection

Your brand name and logo are worth protecting — and in the UAE, protection goes to whoever registers first, not whoever used it first. Kinzaad registers your trademark with the Ministry of Economy and guards your brand across the GCC and beyond.

Why it matters

Why register your trademark

The UAE is a first-to-file jurisdiction. That means the person who registers your brand name owns the rights to it — even if you've been trading under it for years. Every month you wait, someone else can file it, and getting it back is slow and expensive.

Registering your trademark gives you real, enforceable protection:

  • Exclusive rights to use your name and logo for your goods and services in the UAE.
  • A legal basis to act against copycats, counterfeiters and lookalike brands.
  • An asset you own — a registered mark can be licensed, franchised or sold.
  • Customs protection — a registered mark can be recorded to help block counterfeit imports.
  • Credibility with partners, marketplaces and investors who expect a protected brand.

Just launched or about to? Register early. It's far cheaper to file your mark now than to fight to recover it after someone else has.

The registration process

1

Search & class advice

We run an availability search so you don't file a mark that's already taken, and help you pick the class or classes that actually cover your business.

2

Filing

We prepare and file your application with the Ministry of Economy — the mark, the owner details and the correct goods and services.

3

Examination & publication

The Ministry examines the mark, then it's published in the gazette and two newspapers for a 30-day opposition window.

4

Registration certificate

With no valid opposition, the mark registers and you receive your certificate — valid 10 years and renewable. We log the renewal date.

Beyond trademarks

Copyright & wider IP

A trademark protects your brand identity — your name and logo. It doesn't cover everything, so we help with the rest of your intellectual property too:

  • Copyright. Registration for original creative works — software, content, designs, artistic and literary material — with the Ministry of Economy.
  • Multiple classes. Filing across several classes where your business genuinely spans different goods and services.
  • Renewals. We track expiry dates and renew your marks before the 10-year term runs out.
  • Assignments & licensing. Recording ownership transfers and licence agreements so your rights stay clean and enforceable.

Not sure what you actually need protected? Send us your brand and product list and we'll map out the sensible, no-waste protection plan.

Going regional & global

GCC & international extension

Trademark rights are territorial — a UAE registration protects you in the UAE only. If you sell, franchise or plan to expand beyond it, you need protection in each market that matters.

  • GCC filings — separate registrations in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
  • Madrid Protocol — a single international application covering many countries at once, built on your UAE mark.
  • Priority claims — extend your UAE filing date abroad if you move within the priority window.

Expanding regionally? We'll advise which markets are worth protecting now and which can wait, so your budget goes where your business actually is. Pair it with a UAE company setup if you're establishing here first.

Answers

UAE trademarks & IP — common questions

How do I register a trademark in the UAE?
UAE trademarks are registered with the Ministry of Economy. The process is: a search to check your mark is available, filing the application under the correct class or classes, examination by the Ministry, publication in the official gazette and two newspapers for an opposition period, and finally registration once no valid opposition is raised. We manage every step for you.
How long does UAE trademark registration take?
From filing to registration usually takes around 6 to 8 months if there's no opposition. Much of that is the mandatory publication and opposition window. You get useful protection from the filing date, and we keep you updated at each stage — examination, publication and the final certificate.
How much does it cost to register a trademark in the UAE?
Official Ministry of Economy fees are charged per class, and most brands register in one class. We quote the government fees and our professional fee separately and up front. If you need protection across several classes, we'll tell you honestly which ones actually matter for your business rather than upselling classes you don't need.
What is a trademark class and how many do I need?
Trademarks are registered under the international Nice Classification, which sorts goods and services into 45 classes. You register in the classes that cover what you actually sell — a clothing brand in Class 25, a software firm in Class 42, and so on. Many businesses only need one or two. We help you pick the right classes so you're protected where it counts without overpaying.
Does a UAE trademark protect me in other GCC countries?
No — trademark protection is territorial, so a UAE registration only covers the UAE. To protect your brand across the GCC or wider, you register separately in each country, or use the Madrid Protocol for international filings from a single application. We handle both routes and advise which markets are worth protecting for your business.
How long does a UAE trademark last and can it be renewed?
A UAE trademark is valid for 10 years from the filing date and is renewable for further 10-year terms indefinitely. We track your renewal date and handle it before it lapses, so your brand protection never accidentally expires.
